The monsoon in Goa is for people who enjoy the rains, cool weather and the lush green landscape. We love the first rains just after summer when it gets cooler and energy to explore builds up again. Sometimes mid-monsoon it can rain for 3 to 4 days straight. But most of the time there are dry spells. It is all about being flexible and flowing with the weather. Goa gets greener, fresher and even more beautiful. Cool scooter rides around lush greenery, cosy breaks at the many cute cafes, quieter beaches and breathtaking monsoon views at Goa's many viewpoints. In this themed guide we share our favorite monsoon spots. Throw on your poncho and get soaked!
Always, always (!) carry a raincoat and umbrella even if it looks dry, the rain loves to play hide and seek. If you do forget, relax and enjoy it, it's just water :D Swimming in the sea is not allowed but bring your swimsuit for the pool. Yes, it is still warm enough to enjoy the pool. It is dry outside...the sun shines even? From our experience grab this opportunity and head out. Wherever you are going, check beforehand if the place is open (especially in South Goa many places are closed). Potholes are hiding! The roads can surprise you — take it slow on the scooter. Our Airbnb is a home away from home, even more so in the monsoon, where you can enjoy a hot shower, cosy up on the couch with a warm drink and simply enjoy the feeling, sound and sight of rain. Poncho A poncho keeps you warm, dry and cosy when it is pouring down. And for scooter rides we recommend a long poncho with no openings in the front (no zips or buttons at all). Plastic Ponchos are easily available in the many shops around. Umbrella An umbrella of course. Shoes Slippers or water shoes are best. Dry bag Keep all your valuables really dry with a dry bag. If you do not have one you can buy one at the Decathlon in Calangute. Mosquito repellent Mosquitoes love the monsoon too — bring repellent. Other Going for a drive? Plastic eye glasses (or sun glasses) for when it rains so you can still see where you are heading while riding a scooter. A small towel is always handy for a quick dry from the rain.
Goa life is simple, slow and susegad. The true monsoon experiences are... Cosying up at home with the amazing weather, taking hot showers. Jumping in the pool in the rain! Watching the rain drops fall on the water from the open rainy skies is a whole other experience. The real rain dance - Leave that poncho and umbrella at home, dance in the crazy rain. Beach walks - Enjoy the empty beaches, the wild waves and strong winds. Notice the plants feeling more alive then ever. Listen and feel nature talking to you. Sit in the balcony with your chai and relax.
